Wingshooting in Argentina

Among avid international shotgunners, Argentina is considered simply the best in the Americas for wild birds. In friendly Argentina, known as the "Big Sky" country of the Southern Hemisphere, you will find a spectacular variety of fertile farm land, unspoiled wetlands, breathtaking landscapes and fabulous shooting opportunities in a country where local hunting pressure is virtually nonexistent. Carlos Sanchez and his associate guides offer an impressive selection of proven shooting areas where abundant numbers of ducks, doves and partridges are found. From May through mid-August, Argentina is a paradise for wingshooters interested in ducks and partridge, and hot-barreled dove shooting is available in the Entre Rios Province year-round. Sportsmen who have shot doves in Argentina return home awestruck by the waves of birds that continuously cross the sky.
After years of hosting bird shooters in Argentina, Carlos Sanchez was lucky to find what is probably the premier hunting spot in his country. The area is located 250 miles Northwest of Buenos Aires in the Entre Rios Province near the Parana River. There is a 2000 acre roost in a large area of natural woods which holds a population of sixteen million eared dove which fly every morning to feed in the fields. Midday, the birds fly in both directions and in the evening they return to their roost. The land has rolling hills with extensive pastures and agricultural land just beside one of the largest marsh areas in Argentina.

A typical day begins with a limit of ducks before lunch, shooting from blinds over decoys, followed by upland hunting for fast-flushing partridges over pointing dogs, and ending with a high-volume dove hunt. Dove hunting in Argentina is a case-or-two-of-shells-an-afternoon proposition, depending on how much pounding you can take. Normal temperatures are 45 to 50 degrees during the morning duck hunts and the afternoons warm up to short-sleeve weather of 55 to 70 degrees.
